Welcome!
Thank you for visiting The Hiding Place. We pray that this site will bring glory to God, for He is the LORD and worthy of glory and honor. (See Isaiah 42:8) The burden for this site came about partly as a result of my own struggles with physical problems, stress, discouragement, and emotional ups and downs. Sometimes it seemed that God was far away. I did not see the way ahead, and I could not see God. But He could always see me.
As I continued my struggles through this journey, I became aware of how many others were going through the same thing. Discouragement, dashed hopes, serious illnesses, and many other difficult circumstances weighed heavily upon them. Various articles and blog posts online gave me a glimpse into enormity of the struggles many people face. To escape the stresses of life, some have begun to turn to other things. Some create a fantasy world where they can escape the pressures of reality. Some see death as a way out. They long for death and dream about it. A few even attempt to take their own lives.
These feelings are not new. They have been a part of life throughout history. Even the great men of God mentioned in the Bible suffered with the heaviness of these emotions. David longed to run away from his troubles. At one point in his life he cried out, “4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. 5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. 6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.” (Psalm 55:4-6) Job cursed the day of his birth and longed for death. “2 And Job spake, and said, 3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived… 11 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? 12 Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck? 13 For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest.” (Job 3:2,3, and 11-13) Most of Job chapter three describes Job’s perception of death and how he believed that death would be far better than life. Elijah also longed for death. At a time when he was afraid and very discouraged, he “requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” (I Kings 18:4b)
If God put the stories of these people in the Bible and described the battles that they faced and their strong desire for a way out, then surely the answer is in the Bible as well. It is our desire that you will find the answer here and that this site will be a place of understanding and help during times of discouragement, depression, difficult circumstances, or serious illnesses. We pray that you will discover here how you can find your hiding place, your refuge from fear under the shadow of the Almighty. (See Psalm 91:1) May this site be a place of rest in Jesus as you take His yoke upon you and learn from Him. He is waiting to give rest unto your soul. (See Matthew 11:28,29)
