The Psalmist here was experiencing danger. His enemies were trying to hurt him. We have danger in our lives too. We have an enemy, Satan. We may also have people in our lives that want to do us harm. The Psalmist cried unto the LORD, and the LORD answered him. We can do the same thing. The Lord set the Psalmist in a large place. A large place means a broad, open place. The term “large place” is used in other parts of Scripture too and seems to indicate a place of deliverance. God helped bring the Psalmist out of hiding and out of a dark place. He could be in a large, open space safely because the Lord was on His side. He did not need to fear what his enemies could do to him while the Lord was on his side. We do not need to fear either. We can cry to the Lord, and He will hear us also and bring us to a place of safety near to Him.
The LORD not only brought the Psalmist to a place of safety, but He also raised up individuals to help him. God helped those individuals as well. He took their part with the Psalmist and against the enemy. We can leave the enemy in God’s hands. God will take care of the enemy, “therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.” Vengeance belongs to God. The Bible says, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)
We can offer thanksgiving to God for answering us when we cry and protecting us against the enemy. He is showing us His goodness and mercy, and He is trustworthy. “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
