The Psalmist was surrounded by enemies on every side. They were swarming him. He had no human help. He was vastly outnumbered. But He trusted in the LORD. “In the name of the LORD I will destroy them,” he said. Three times he repeated that assurance. The Psalmist knew his safety was of the LORD. Even before he described the situation he was in, he stated, “8) It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. 9) It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.” (Psalm 118:8,9) The Psalmist knew that his enemies had no power over the Lord. He confidently declared, “13) Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me. 14) The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.”
We serve the same God. When we are afraid and surrounded by trouble and danger, we can cry to Him. We can know that the enemies of our soul or those who would seek to physically harm us are no match for God. The Lord is more powerful than they all. We can call out to Him in trouble, and He will help us. We can have confidence in Him. He will be our strength, our song, and our salvation. Lord, help me trust You more. “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” (Psalm 56:3)
