“As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.” (verse 2) God has put His blessing on Zion forever. All around Jerusalem are the mountains. God is around His people just like those mountains are around Jerusalem. Psalm 34:7,8 says, “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” God’s people do not need to fear because the Lord sends His angel to camp around them and deliver them. This is the blessing for those that trust in the Lord.

Psalm 125:3 says, “For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.” Sometimes God uses the wicked to chasten His people when they have sinned, but He still preserves them. “Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life…” (Psalm 17:13,14a) The wicked have their portion only in this life. God’s people may suffer at the hand of the wicked, but God will take the rod from them and deliver them. They have God in this life, and they have the portion He has laid up for them in the life to come. God will do good to those that are upright in heart. “Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.” (Psalm 125:4)
The wicked shall be led forth to judgment, but God’s people will have peace. “As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.” (verse 5) “The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)
