One reason the Psalmist was so weary and heavy burdened is that lying was all about him. Truth was scarce. He pleaded with God, “Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.” (verse 29) The Psalmist desired the truth of God’s word rather than the lies of those all around him.
In the last three verses of this section, the strength of the Psalmist seems to be renewed. His heart feels assured that the Lord will help him, and he is ready to start serving again. “30) I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. 31) I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame. 32) I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.” (verses 30-32) Though lying was all about him, the Psalmist chose the way of truth. He set God’s judgments before him and stuck to God’s testimonies. He knew he would not be ashamed and that the Lord would hear his prayer and enlarge his heart; that is, that his heart might be so encouraged and enlivened that he could return to his work and run after God’s word with all his heart. God will strengthen us the same way. Isn’t it wonderful that we have God’s word of truth and we can go to God for the same strength in our time of heavy burden? Thank You, Lord. Help me trust and lean on You.
