The Psalmist loved God’s word. In it he hoped and trusted because he knew it was true. In this passage, he mixes his love of God’s word with prayers and pleas to God.
* God’s word gave the Psalmist help when others tried to speak ill of him and damage his reputation. “Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word. So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.” (Psalm 119:441,42) The Psalmist pleaded with God to save him from the trouble he was in. He knew God would hear him. God’s word gave him the answers to return to those who would malign him.
* The Psalmist pleaded with God to help him not forget His word but to remember it so that he would speak God’s truth and obey what it said. “And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments. So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.” (verses 43 and 44)
* Because of God’s word, the Psalmist could walk at liberty even though turmoil was all around him. “I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.” (verse 45)
* God’s word gave the Psalmist courage to speak God’s truth, even to kings. “I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.” (verse 46)
* The Psalmist loved God’s word and it was his delight and his meditation. “And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.” (verses 47,48)
