Sounds a glad, triumphant strain
'Tis the message of the gospel,
Telling that the Savior came,
'Tis the golden, heav'nly anthem
Which God's faithful ones proclaim,
"Our Christ is strong to save."
Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Our Christ is strong to save.
He who died in pain and sorrow,
That His people might be free;
He who, conqu'ring death and rising,
Captive led captivity --
He our glorious, living Leader,
Calls us on to victory --
For Christ is strong to save.
O the growing, widening wonder
Of the gospel of His grace!
In His world-encircling service,
Ev'ry worker finds a place.
For we only turn dark natures
Toward the brightness of His face;
And Christ is strong to save!
He will bid the pow'rs of evil
Crumble to their final fall;
He will raise the bruised and broken,
And set free each prisoned thrall;
Who is he that may not conquer
Since his Lord has conquer'd all?
And Christ is strong to save!
Hymn #356 from Pentecostal Hymns One and Two Combined,
printed by Hope Publishing Company, Chicago. (c) 1894 by Henry Date
I did change the first verse a bit because it did not make sense to me, so much of the first verse is my own words. Perhaps if I had been there at the time of the writing of the hymn, I would have understood the meaning of it better. If anyone knows the author of the hymn and the dates the author was alive, feel free to leave a comment with the information. Hope you enjoy! Thanks.
