Yesterday afternoon, I went to a chiropractor appointment. It was a strange sort of visit as everyone was wearing masks and there was a lot of disinfectant around. It seemed that everyone was being hurried in and out.
I talked with the lady at the desk a bit about the unusual weather. Yesterday morning it was 38 degrees. Saturday night will be in the 30s. Will we see a frost? My next appointment is scheduled for June when it will be warmer, if the weather ever decides to warm up. The lady sighed and remarked that she didn’t know what day it is or what time [of year] it is anymore. She sounded weary.
I didn’t think of it at the time, but I should have told the receptionist about Genesis 8:22. God does not change or have any variableness or even shadow of turning. Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever. But God promised there is something else that does not change, something that people can see.
After the Great Flood, Noah sacrificed some of every clean beast and every clean fowl and burnt them upon the altar. Genesis 8:21,22 describes the Lord’s response, “21) And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22) While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
God promised that, as long as the earth remains, there will always be change of season and there will always be day and night. I look around, and the earth is surely still here. That means the seasons will change and we can count on the sun coming up every morning and darkness falling every night. These are God’s tokens to us to assure mankind that He still remembers us and He is still in control.
