The Doors Being Shut
The following hymn is one of my favorite and has been a comfort to me in many a dark time in my life. I pray it will be a blessing to you as well.
Only Believe
1. Fear not, little flock, from the cross to the throne,
From death into life He went for His own;
All power in earth, all power above,
Is given to Him for the flock of His love.
Chrous:
Only believe, only believe;
All things are possible, only believe;
Only believe, only believe;
All things are possible, only believe.
2. Fear not little flock, He goeth ahead,
Your Shepherd selecteth the path you must tread;
The waters of Marah He’ll sweeten for thee –
He drank all the bitter in Gethsemane.
3. Fear not, little flock, whatever your lot;
He enters all rooms, “the doors being shut.”
He never forsakes, He never is gone –
So count on His presence in darkness and dawn.
~Words and music by Paul Rader
I was reminded of this hymn during my Bible reading this morning. John 20:19 says, “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.” No matter your lot, even if you must hide away behind shut doors, or if you are in prison, or if you are shut in because of illness or injury, Jesus never forsakes you. He enters all rooms, the doors being shut. He is right there with you. “He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper.” (Hebrews 13:5,6)
