Psalm 128:1 says, “Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.” Everyone that fears the Lord and walks in His ways will be blessed. What kind of blessings will that person receive?
1. His/her labor will be prosperous.
2. He/she will be happy.
3. It will be well with that person.
“For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.” (verse 2)
4. For the man -- his wife will be a fruitful vine by the sides of the house – a tender plant that needs supported, yet is valuable and a source of knowledge; one that is fruitful in children, wisdom, righteousness and good management of the home.
5. Children that are like olive plants around the table – gathered with the family, not scattered everywhere, in good health, receiving good education, learning to be profitable members of society.
“Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.” (verse 3)
When a man fears the Lord and leads his household in the ways of the Lord, his whole house is blessed.
These are the blessings of the one who fears the Lord. “Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.” (verse 4)
There are a couple more blessings added to these.
a. That person will be blessed out of Zion and see the good of Jerusalem all his days, “The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.” (verse 5) When Jerusalem is doing well, the rest of the world benefits, especially those who fear the Lord.
b. That person will live to see future posterity and peace upon Israel.
“Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.” (verse 6) When Israel is at peace, other areas of the world are at peace also.
Fearing the Lord and walking in His ways brings blessings to us and to Israel and to many others. We should take heed to fear the Lord and walk in His ways every day.
