God is The Creator
The Bible teaches us that God is the Creator. Ecclesiastes 12:1 says, “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.” The very first verse of the Bible, Genesis 1:1, says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Exodus 20:11 teaches that, “the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is.”
God is Our Maker
Psalm 95:6,7 says, “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.”
God is Omnipotent, All Powerful
If God wants something to happen, all He has to do is speak, and it will happen. No one else can do that. No one else is God.
“3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.” (Genesis 1:3,4) God used only His voice to make light. When God told the light to appear, it appeared.
God is Light
Genesis 1:4,5 says, “4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” God is the Maker of light, and He distinguishes between light and darkness and day and night.
“God saw the light, that it was good.” Why is light good? Light is good because light is necessary for life. If there is no light, there is no life. We know that God is light.
“God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (I John 1:5b)
God the Son, who is Jesus, is the Light that shines to show people how they can know God the Father. John 1:9 says, “That [Jesus] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”
If we know God, Jesus lives in our hearts. He is our Light. People can see that we are different. We do what is right because we walk in the Light.
People who do not know God walk in darkness. Jesus is not shining in their hearts. They are separated from God because they are not in the Light. Darkness and light are separate.
Jesus is the Light, and He shows the way to God the Father. In fact, Jesus is the way to God the Father. He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
When God created the world, first there was darkness. Then light came. It is the same with our souls. When we are born, we are all born sinners. Our lives begin in darkness. God did not make us sinners, but we are all sinners because Adam, the first man, sinned and passed this sin nature on to us. Psalm 51:5 says, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” We are sinners from the time we are conceived in the womb.
But, Jesus, who is “the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world,” came to show us our sins – to show me my sins, and to show you your sins. Ephesians 5:13 says, “All things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.” Jesus is that Light that makes sin manifest.
God is the creator. He created you. God is light. And
God is Life
Jesus said, “I am… the life.” (See John 14:6) He came to give you life. He says, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10b)
When God first made man, man was perfect. He was clean. He had life. Then man sinned. His spirit died. He no longer had life inside of him.
God is the Living Water
God had to send down His Living Water, Jesus Christ His Son, to die for man’s sins. In Jeremiah 2:13, God calls Himself, “the fountain of living waters.” In this verse, He is sad because Israel has forsaken Him, and they did not partake of Him, their fountain of Living Waters. Zechariah prophesied of a day when a fountain would be opened for sin and for uncleanness. (See Zechariah 13:1) In Revelation 21:6, those who are thirsty are urged to partake of “the fountain of the water of life freely.” In Revelation 22:17, God says, “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
The water of life is the fountain open for the cleansing of sin, the fountain of Jesus’ blood. It is “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son” that “cleanseth us from all sin.” (See I John 1:7)
How about you? Have you come to the Light and allowed God to shine it into your heart and reveal your sin? Have you sought the abundant life Jesus offers? Have you come to the fountain opened for sin to be cleansed and filled and to have your spiritual thirst satisfied? You can. You can come today. God has promised, “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground.” (Isaiah 44:3) Will you come to the fountain opened for you?
