The focus for this little meditation from Scripture is "worship." Luke 10:39, says, “And she [Martha] had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.” Below are some thoughts on two aspects of worship.
Get Down Low
Mary sat down at Jesus’ feet. She put herself in a position of humility. She got down low. “You must get down low to worship Jesus”* A proud heart cannot truly worship Jesus because it is actually worshiping self.
If I get down low, I can see my Savior’s feet. They are pierced feet – pierced for me. My God, My Lord, King of all the universe allowed His feet to be pierced for me.
If I get down low, I can see my Savior’s feet. They are bruised and bleeding – bruised and bleeding for me. The Great God, Creator of heaven and earth, came down to earth and allowed His feet to be bruised and broken for me.
If I get down low, I can see my Savior’s feet. Perhaps my tears will fall upon those feet. Perhaps my hair can wipe away my tears from those feet as my heart returns His love which was so freely given yet at so great a cost.
Jesus’ feet. Beautiful feet. Feet that were broken for me that I might be made whole. Feet that tell of the sorrow He bore for me that I might have joy.
If I get down low, I can see my Savior’s feet.
Hear His Word
Luke 10:39 says that “Mary… heard his word.” Worship is not so much an act I do for God. Rather, it is sitting still in His presence so I can hear from Him. It is listening to what He has to say. As I look into Scripture and humble myself before Him, He can speak to me and show Himself to me. He can teach me how much He loves, and I can learn to trust and rest.
Worship is a place of rest near to the heart of God.
