The Hiding Place...
A place of safety
“1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
The secret place of the most High is a hiding place in the shadow of the Almighty. It is a place of refuge, a fortress that the enemy cannot penetrate. Here in God’s hiding place I can dwell. It is my home, not just a temporary place I can run to when I am in trouble. It is my residence. In this home, I am close to the Almighty, hidden in Him. He is my God, and I can trust in Him, for He is worthy of trust.
A place of shelter
“3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
The secret place of the most High is a place of deliverance from the snare of the fowler, the enemy who would trap me. A fowler sets a trap to catch a bird, not for fun or for a pet, but to kill the bird. The enemy would wish to trap me and kill me, to take my soul for himself. However, he cannot because I am dwelling in the secret place of the most High, protected in His fortress. God has my soul, and no enemy can penetrate that fortress.
The secret place of the most High is also a place of deliverance from sickness. Hiding safely under His wings, I am safe because His truth is my shield and buckler. There the wicked cannot touch me. When God sends sickness to judge those who rebel against Him, it will not come to me. I will be safe from the noisome pestilence for He has covered me with His feathers, and under His wings I will trust.
A place where there is no fear
“5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.”
The secret place of the most high is a place where I can be free from fear. There are many frightful things all around. There are terrors of the night, and arrows or other weapons that an enemy could use against me in the day time and many other frightful things that destroy. But I am safe hiding under the shadow of God’s wings. When God sends His judgment against sin, a thousand may be slain at once; but I am safe, because I am sheltered close to God’s side. Only with my eyes will I see the wicked being punished, but it will not come nigh me when I am hiding in the secret place of the Almighty. The LORD is my refuge, and the most High is my habitation.
A place of protection
“9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.”
The secret place of the most High is a place where harm cannot come to me. No plague will afflict. God will send His angels to help me in all my ways. They will hold my hand and keep my foot from slipping. God has given them power over those things which may harm me. When God sends judgment on the wicked, it will come to them; but it cannot come nigh me as long as I remain in the secret place He has prepared for me.
A place of fellowship
“14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
The secret place of the most High is
A place of love
A place of deliverance
A place of exaltation, because I know His name
A place of prayer
A place of answers to prayer
A place of knowing God’s presence
A place of seeing God’s deliverance
A place of honor
A place of long life
A place of salvation
Oh that I would never wish to leave this special place God has prepared for me next to His side, sheltered in the shadow of the Almighty’s wings!
The Hiding Place
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night,
Nor the arrow that flieth by day,
Nor the snare that the fowler hath laid for thy soul,
Nor destruction that wasteth away.
Though thine eyes behold the reward of the wicked
And a thousand fall at thy side,
The shadow of the Almighty shall cover thee
And safe ‘neath His wings thou shalt hide.
The roaring lion shall not make thee afraid,
Nor the serpent thou didst see by the way;
For the truth of the Lord is thy buckler and shield
And thy safety by night and by day.
God shall give His angels charge over thee,
No evil or plague will bring harm;
Thine habitation is secure in the Lord,
No danger or fear can alarm.
Thy Refuge, thy Hiding Place, is the most High,
With His feathers He’ll cover thee o’er;
Thy home, thy dwelling place close by His side.
Is thy shelter, safe and secure.
