The Savor of Thy Good Ointments
“Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.” (Song of Solomon 1:3)
As the bride’s mind was filled with the desire for her lover’s kisses, she was enveloped with memories of the fragrance of the ointments that he used. It was these beautiful fragrances that caused him to be so loved. The mere mention of his name brought to heart the ecstasy of the pleasantness of his ointments.
Jesus is like the groom. His love is diffused abroad and the fruits of it are evident everywhere. The savor of His love is so wonderful that the mention of Christ’s name brings joy and delight to the hearts of those who know Him. Because of His sweet fragrance, the saints do love Him. They love Him so much and speak of Him in every place.
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” (II Corinthians 2:14) I can make Jesus’ wonderful savor known everywhere.
