My Testimony in Poem
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,” said he,
And thou shalt be saved for eternity.”
These were the words of our father dear
To his two little daughters sitting near.
“It was for you, Christ’s punishment sore,
Your sins in His body the Savior bore.
“In a cold, dark grave they buried Him,
All was sad and hope was dim;
“But the grave it could not hold Him fast –
He rose again – three days had passed.
“And now in Heaven He lives on high,
Waiting to welcome you by and by.
“So won’t you trust in Him today,
He’s waiting, waiting, don’t delay”
“I will,” thought I, and so I did.
My life in God’s strong hand was hid.
Through many years of trust and rest,
God led me and my life was blest.
But one day, as in church I sat,
The preacher’s words I wondered at.
“Oh, tell me, What was it you prayed?
What were the very words you said?
“What was the year and month and day
That on the Lord your sins you lay?
“How old were you when you got saved?
Oh, tell me now, what was your age?
“The resurrection, did you know
Details of that day long ago?
“That Jesus Christ was crucified and
And rose again after He died?
“Without His rising from the grave
Eternal life you cannot have.
“When He took your sins away,
Did you feel light as the day?”
“Only believe,” said my Savior dear,
But to His words I gave no ear.
No more at rest, and no more still,
I tried to think and feel and will.
Instead of God, I trusted man,
Good works I tried and thought “I can.”
And all the time I knew, “I can’t,”
But after God I did not pant.
The preacher’s words each day I tried,
But I was never satisfied.
My heart did quake with fear and doom,
I wandered ‘bout in dusk and gloom.
No rest had I in day or night,
Yet continued on to fight.
Until one day, I heard God say,
“Quit trying to work and feel and pray.
“Only believe; that’s all I ask,
Not laboring at some hard task.
“Remember you did trust in Me,
I saved you for eternity.
“You are Mine; one of My sheep
And every one of them I keep.
“Not for a day or week or two,
But forever, I’ll keep you.”
Then to my Father’s arms I flew
And rest and joy I found anew.
I truly had in Him believed;
He had pardoned and received.
What a fool I had been
Works and feelings to trust in.
Now I am done with all of this.
For all eternity, I am His.

“For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (II Timothy 1:12b)
Many times these days salvation is made out to be so difficult. Salvation is not dependent on saying a certain prayer, remembering where and how old you were when you got saved, feeling different afterward or any of those things. The resurrection is important to salvation. Those who reject the resurrection and do not believe it is true are not saved, but there are many people who get saved before they understand about the resurrection. Salvation is not based on “feeling different” after an experience. Salvation is based on believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, and His sacrifice for our sins through His death and shed blood on Calvary. It is “with the heart man believeth unto righteousness.” And then “with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (See Romans 10:10) That is, what is in the heart will come out of the mouth. What God has done in the heart, the one who believes will confess with his mouth. And “Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” (Romans 10:11)
