After pouring out his heart to God regarding protection from his enemies and the judgment of the wicked, David ends his prayer with confidence that the Lord will uphold the cause of the afflicted and the poor, and He will take care of the righteous.
Psalm 140:12 says, “I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.” The Bible gives this assurance, “For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.” How comforting to know that when we cry unto the Lord in trouble, He hears. We know that “He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.” (Psalm 72:4)
Because we know the Lord hears our prayer and that He will not forget us but will care for us, our response should be to give Him thanks. Psalm 140:13 says, “Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.”
- “Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.” (Psalm 32:11)
- “Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.” (Psalm 33:11)
- “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16:11)
- “23) Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24) Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.” (Psalm 73:23,24)
- Jesus said, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
- Jesus said, “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24)
- “16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18) Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (I Thessalonians 4:16-18)
What a God we have! Answers to prayer and loving care while we are here on earth. An ear always bent to hear the cries of His children. The promise of His presence and pleasures. The hope of eternal life. His coming again to catch us away to be with him forevermore. Thank You, God! You are worthy of all thanks and praise.
