“Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God.” (Psalm 147:7) Why should we sing and give thanks? Why should we praise upon the harp or other musical instruments? Because God is in control and He will provide for the things He created.
God controls the Weather
Psalm 148:8 tells us that God is the one “Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.” Sometimes it is hard to like rain. The sky grows dark, the clouds hang low, the rain drops from the sky, sometimes for hours and hours. It seems so dreary. But God has a purpose for the rain. It causes the grass to grow and the ground to bring forth. Psalm 65 describes the blessings of God’s rain, “9) Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. 10) Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof. 11) Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness. 12) They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side. 13) The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.” (verses 9-13)
God Provides for His Creatures
Psalm 148:9 says, “He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.” Psalm 145:15,16 says, “15) The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16) Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.” You see the animals, big and small? You see the creeping, crawling things? God created them all, and He cares for each one. He provides for them their food. He satisfies their desires.
God did not simply create a world and leave it to run on the “laws of nature.” No, He sustains the world. He looks to each creature that He has made and provides for it. There is not one thing that God leaves undone. He is a true and faithful God.
