The last part of Psalm 144 is a very happy section. It describes a people who fear God and who trust in Him for their safety. It describes a people whose confidence is in God and who trust in God to be their deliver and their salvation.
Happy Citizens
“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace.” (Psalm 144:12) Here we see a people that God has multiplied. Their children are many and they are strong and graceful. The sons are like young plants – sturdy and growing and productive. The daughters are beautiful and graceful inside and out. This makes both the young people and the older generations in a nation happy.
Productive economy
“That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store...” (Psalm 144:13a) Garners referred to gathering places for crops and goods and also granaries.
Healthy, Productive Livestock
“That our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: That our oxen may be strong to labour.” (Psalm 144:13b and 14a)
Low Crime Rate and Safe Neighborhoods
“That there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.” (Psalm 144:14b)
Does this not sound a like a nation we would like to live in? Is our nation like this? Why not? Is it because we do not fear God and trust Him? Is it because we have not made God our refuge and put our confidence in Him for our salvation and deliverance? This can change. This Psalm tells the secret to a happy, productive nation. The secret is that God must be their LORD. “Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.” (Psalm 144:15)
Let us go out and share the good news. We can be a happy people and a happy nation.
