He Maketh My Way Perfect
II Samuel 22:33 says, “God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.” Sometimes it seems like days are frustrating, or too busy, or I can’t get the things done I want to get done. There are many times when things do not seem to go as planned, or at least not the way I planned them. There are things that we have prayed about for which we do not yet see an answer. This might seem like an unsettling time. However, this is not something unique to me. Many other people are no doubt in the same situation. Regarding time, our pastor asked a searching question on Wednesday night, “Do you accept where God has you right now, or are you longing for something else?” Maybe things will change in the future, and I should certainly do my best to take care of my needs and to improve life. There is nothing wrong with that. I can do whatever I am able to do within the means God has provided. However, God is the one who will open doors and prosper and lead to a different “time” when it is His time.
A verse that comes to mind is Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” Of course, this Psalm is comparing the evil man and the righteous man and the difference in the ways God will treat and deal with each one. The wicked will be cut off, while the righteous will be preserved and blessed. The good man, or righteous man walks in the steps of the LORD and experiences delight in relationship with Him. The reason that my “time” is good right now is that it is the time ordered by the Lord. He makes my way perfect. My way, or my present “time” in life, is perfect because God is the director of it, and God’s way is perfect. II Samuel 22:31,32 gives me this encouragement, “31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. 32For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?” God has me right where He wants me right now, and that place, that way, that “time” is perfect.
Whatever is ahead in life, whatever God wants me to do, whatever path I take when following His will, is good because “The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever.” (Psalm 138:8a) Even if I walk through trouble, it is a perfect way. God is walking through it with me, and it is His way, and He is going to make it come out all right in the end. “6Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off. 7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. 8The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.” (Psalm 138:6-8)
