In Psalm 139:1-6, we saw that we are known of God. God knows everything about us. He is before us and behind us and has set his hand upon us. He knows when we get up and when we lie down; He knows what we are thinking and every word we say.
God knows all about us, and we cannot hide from God. There is no place that we can go that God cannot see us. Psalm 139:7 says, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” Where shall I go? There is no place to go where God is not. Consider these verses from Jeremiah 23:23,24, “23) Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24) Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD.”
*I cannot hide from God in heaven, “I ascend up into heaven, thou art there.” (Psalm 139:8a) I cannot hide from God in space, and I cannot hide from God in heaven itself. Heaven is God’s dwelling place.
*I cannot hide from God in hell, “…if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.” (Psalm 139:8b) A wicked person cannot say, “Oh, when I die and go to hell it will be all over. God will leave me alone there.” Job 34:21,22 says, “21) For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings. 22) There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.” Also, Isaiah 66:23,24 says, “23) And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. 24) And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.” There is no rest for the wicked night or day, and they will never be able to hide from the eyes of God, not even in hell.
*I cannot hide from God out on the sea. “9) If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10) Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:9,10)
*I cannot hide from God in the dark or in the light. It makes no difference to God whether it is dark or light. “11) If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12) Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.” (Psalm 139:11,12)
Psalm 139:13 says, “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.” God knew me from the time I was conceived in my mother’s womb. He has had His hand upon me all my life. God knew you from the time you were conceived in your mother’s womb, and He has had His hand upon your life too. Make sure your life is lived for Him. That is the way to peace, glory, and the pleasure of God’s presence.
