Psalm 110:2,3 goes on to say, “2) The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3) Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.” All things are not yet put under Jesus’ feet; but one day they will be and all His enemies will be subdued. God’s people will be willing and will rejoice in the beauty of God’s holiness and in the refreshing that comes when Jesus reigns.
The nations and rulers of nations that turn their backs on God will be judged. Jesus will execute God’s wrath upon them. Notice the word “Lord” in verse five not being in all capital letters. It is the same as the Lord that is sitting at the right hand of the LORD; it is referring to Jesus. What will Jesus do? Verses five through seven tell us, “5) The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6) He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. 7) He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.”
When the day of the Lord’s wrath is come, Jesus will strike through the kings that reject Him. He will judge among the nations. All those that refused to believe on Him and fear Him will also experience God’s wrath as the place will be filled with dead bodies. Jesus will rise to make war with the nations and will subdue them. (See Revelation 19:11 and 14:19,20) Right now the heads of certain nations think that they have control over the earth and that they are in charge; but one day, Jesus will wound the heads of many countries. He will bring down the rulers. All things will be put under His feet, and He will reign.
When God finished creating the earth, He rested, “And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” His work of creation was finished. When Jesus finishes subduing the kingdoms, He will rest. “He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.” (Psalm 110:7) His work will be finished. His head will be lifted up.
Thank You, God, that this day is coming. What a day it will be when Jesus finishes all His work and drinks of the brook in the way to refresh Himself and is lifted up on high!
