“And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.” (Genesis 19:29)
Why did God show such great mercy toward Lot? It was because of His mercies and because God remembered Abraham. Abraham had earnestly pleaded with God to save Lot, even to save the city of Sodom if there were ten righteous people, but there were not. Lot did not deserve to be saved from destruction. None of us deserve God’s mercy. Yet “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.” (Lamentations 3:22) Praise God for His mercies. And praise God that He hears the fervent prayers of a righteous man and saves souls because of His mercies.
