Come now. Do not wait. The time is growing late. Come now. Come and reason with the LORD. Listen as He describes your sin. See your need. Consider His words of hope, “…though your sins be as scarlet….” Scarlet is a brilliant red color which sometimes has a tinge of orange in it. It is sometimes used to refer to impudence and sin, lust, and infidelity. Red is hard to remove, hard to wash out or cover over. Just imagine -- such sin can be removed so thoroughly that the heart is “white as snow.”
“… though it be red like crimson….” Crimson is a very deep red, almost with a tinge of purple. It was a little bit harder to find meanings for crimson. However, it is mentioned as the color for the woman in Revelation chapter seventeen, who was a whore and the mother of harlots. Perhaps, in this verse, it is referring to sins of immorality. It can also refer to holy things being used for profane uses (worldly or every day uses). Both scarlet and crimson can refer to sins of blood-guiltiness. Even these can be made as wool. Matthew Henry remarks that “God will make us white by a full remission.” When we return unto the Lord, He blots out our sins so that they cannot be seen, “I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.” (Isaiah 44:22)
