How long will Scripture last? Is the Bible outdated? Will it ever become useless for the current age? No. The Bible is everlasting and changeless. It is always up to date and profitable for our times. Consider the following verse and see what God Himself says about His word.
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
“My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” (Psalm 89:34)
“But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (I Peter 1:25)
There is a strange teaching going around that our Bibles are changing. According to this teaching, even old Bibles can change right in our own house. As odd as this may seem, there are many who are starting to believe this. However, the above-mentioned verse shows that this teaching is false. The word of God endures forever. And, it is this word by which the Gospel is preached. If the word of God is changing and we no longer have a correct copy of it, then nobody today could get saved. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” In Matthew 5:18, Jesus assures us, “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” God says that His word abides forever. We know that God is true and that He cannot lie.
Here are just a couple more verse about God’s word and the assurance that His word is true and endures forever.
“Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.” (Psalm 119:152)
“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” (Psalm 119:160)
God’s word is true from the beginning. It was always true. It was true when He first spoke it, and it will be true forever. Every one of His righteous judgments endures forever. Not one will ever change or pass away. This is a wonderful assurance for us and should give us comfort, peace, and stability in a changing world.
