Psalm 107:1-7 says, “1O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 3And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 4They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 7And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.”
When the enemy is after us, we can cry to the Lord in our trouble. If we are fleeing from the enemy, or if it feels like we are wandering in the wilderness, we can cry to the Lord in our trouble. When we feel like a wanderer and find no place of rest for our weary souls, we can cry to the Lord in our trouble. When we are hungry and thirsty, and our soul faints within us, we can cry to the Lord in our trouble. We can cry to the Lord, and we can expect that He will deliver us from our distresses.
The Lord does not stop with deliverance. He does not just take us out of the hand of the enemy and then leave us to find our own way. The Lord leads us forth by the right way.
“Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (verse eight)
What goodness and wonderful works does the LORD show to us when we cry to Him? He satisfies our longing souls and fills us with His goodness.
“For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” (verse nine)
