What shall I render; what shall I recompense, restore or return, unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me? This is the answer the Psalmist gave, and it is the answer I should be willing to give as well.
1. I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name LORD.
God reached down and “delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.” Now I can “walk before the LORD in the land of the living.” God’s cup of blessing to me is overflowing. Now I can partake of it freely and call upon the name of the Lord. This pleases the Lord.
2. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
I will not hide what the Lord has done for me but will declare it in the presence of all His people. Whatever I promised the Lord during my trials, I will do in the presence of His people so that His name will be glorified.
3. I will serve the Lord faithfully in life or in death. (See verses 15,16) The Lord has loosed my bonds of sin and delivered me from danger and trouble. Now I ought to willingly serve Him, whether by life or by death because He cared for me and gave so much for me.
4. I will offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call upon the name of the Lord.
Sometimes things may be easy; other times they may be hard. But this does not change all the benefits God has rendered to me. Therefore I will offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving to Him and call upon His name. Whether things or going well, or whether I feel down and things are difficult, I will offer the Lord thanksgiving. It will be the free sacrifice of my heart.
5. I will be faithful to the Lord’s house and faithful to obedience to Him. I will pay my vows and honor Him in the presence of all His people.
“18) I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people, 19) In the courts of the LORD's house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.” (verses 18,19)
